Technical SEO

Technical SEO:

Technical SEO basically deals with optimizing servers and websites so that the search engine spiders can crawl and index websites in accordance with the customized setup that helps websites to rank organically.

Sorting out SSL:

Sorting out an SSL is an important consideration while doing a technical SEO audit. Sometimes this technical error occurs on some websites. In this case, you will see beside the URL there is written ‘Not secure’. This writing means that this website does not have an SSL certificate. In this case, contact your hosting company and they will provide you with an SSL certificate. Now install a plugin named ‘Really simple SSL. It will redirect your http site into https.

XML sitemap:

To figure out whether a website has an XML sitemap, go to the URL and type the website address/sitemap.xml. Now you will see the XML sitemap. This XML sitemap is very important for a website. If the website does not have an XML sitemap then install the Yoast SEO plugin. Now you will find an SEO option in your dashboard. Click SEO and then click search appearances. Now you can customize all the options according to your requirements. An XML sitemap is one of the most important considerations while doing a Technical SEO audit.

Robot.txt file:

Robot.txt file tells search engines where they can and can’t go on your site.

Why robot.txt:

Search spider arrives at a website with a predetermined ‘allowance’ for how many pages it will crawl or how many resources or time it will spend,  based on a site’s authority, size/reputation. Sometimes you do not want many pages to be crawled or indexed for many reasons. That’s why you need to edit your robot.txt file by yourself.

How to create, edit or add robot.txt file for WordPress:

At first, go to SEO from your dashboard and then click tools. From the Tools option click file editor. Here you can edit your robot.txt file.

On the WordPress site, you might already have a robot.txt file and you may need to edit it. To know what you will edit you must know what it already has.

User-agent: *

( It means that all the search engines like google, bing, or yahoo can crawl your website). If you want a particular search engine to crawl then you can set User-agent: Googlebot.

Disallow: /wp-admin/

( It means that the admin panel is not accessed or crawled by a search engine bot). It may by default exist on your website.

Disallow: /* .jpg$

(If you want to disallow any jpg file to be crawled by a search engine.)

Disallow: /* .pdf$

(If you want to disallow any pdf file to be crawled by the search engine)

Disallow: /* link of a page or a post

( if you want to disallow a specific page or post to be crawled by the search engine)

Crawl-delay: 15

Sitemap: (enter your website xml sitemap URL)

Fixing 404 Errors:

After completing an SEO audit, you may find one or above 404 pages. 404 page means that Google thinks there was a page before, but now the link is broken. So, how will you fix it? The solution is really simple. At first, you have to add a new plugin. From the plugin option, click add new. Now search 301 redirects. You will find many plugins. Download one which is compatible with your WordPress version. Now you will redirect the page with the broken link to its new link using the plugin. For this, try to find out the right link then from the 301 redirect plugin, you will get the option to remove the old link to the new one. Thus the broken link will be redirected to the new link.

Fixing Alt Text

Google doesn’t understand the image but it can read the description. So, it is necessary to write an alternative text for the image. The text must describe the image. After doing an SEO audit if you find that you have to fix a lot of alt text, then you can go to the dashboard. Now go to the media library and fix all the alt text problems.

Fixing meta description

When we search for something on Google, we find different Google results. If we look at the results we will see each result has three parts these are an URL, a title, and a description. These titles and descriptions are known as meta titles and meta descriptions in SEO language. After doing SEO if we find any duplicate meta description then we have to change the meta description to make each meta description unique. We can easily do it by clicking edit post.

Fixing technical errors through a technical SEO audit is very important for a website. It helps to rank a website.
